David Calzado is a renowned Cuban musician, bandleader, and songwriter. He is best known as the founder and leader of the popular Cuban salsa band, Charanga Habanera. Calzado was born on March 16th, 1962 in Havana, Cuba, and he began his music career as a percussionist.
In the late 1980s, Calzado founded Charanga Habanera, and over the years, the band has become one of the most successful and influential Cuban salsa groups in the world. Their music incorporates elements of traditional Cuban music, salsa, and timba, and they have released over 20 albums, including "Live in the USA," "Acere Que Volaa," and "Charangoa."
Calzado has also worked with numerous other artists in the Cuban music scene, including Isaac Delgado, Paulito FG, and NG La Banda. He has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to Cuban music, including the Distinction for National Culture, Cuba's highest cultural honor, in 2002. Calzado continues to lead Charanga Habanera and perform around the world.
